Why do we have them?

Do they really help attract sponsors?

Do they actually turn some players off entering tournaments?

Do players wearing shorts and tshirts have an unfair advantage because they are comfortable?

1. why?

2. I don't know, but I think the quality of match is more important.

3. I don't think so.

4. Yes.

We have them so it does not look like some wed night pub comp

It would be more attractive to sponsors yes

If you know the rules and dress regs of the game you should know better, if getting dressed up for a weekend is no good for you dont play

I could play in a duck suit it dont matter what you wear, some people think its more comfy to play in shorts or whatever, the only advantage i can see if the room is hot, your gonna get sweaty quicker if your wearing the correct wear then someone who is wearing shorts

Dress code is ridiculous. ( smart casual is fine - the players in the latest final looked fine/comfortable and like pool players, not penguins ) and yes they did have an advantage, only because the rest of us were disadvantaged by following the rules ( which are silly ) !

So is testing for non-performance enhancing drugs. ( ironically you are allowed to take some drugs, even though they are performance enhancing, but legal ) ?

The highest paid and most seen sportsman in the world wears shorts, and does not get drug tested ?

The participation in our sport would double if not triple overnight, should this irrelevant and antiquated sillyness be stopped.

People who wear pants/shirts and gay shoes anyway, cannot be taken seriously in this discussion !
I agree completely! I think smart casual should be the dress code. If the events had sponsors and had Televised quarter/semi/finals. Then it would be fair to ask players to wear slacks, nice shoes and tucked in polo shirts. The reason for a dress code is to show outsiders how professional we are. But there are no outsiders......No sponsors.....No televised matches. So why make people uncomfortable. I am most comfortable playing in thongs and shorts personally. I do agree that you don't want people wearing clothes with holes in them or tank tops, etc.... But dress code should be revised I think.
And there's the reason there is little sponsorship and no television coverage! FFS! Is it really that hard to wear slacks shoes and a polo shirt??

I like to play in a thong too Michael but I think it would be un appropriate....

Dress codes are ridiculous I have always abidied by them and on the weekend I did my own little silent protest but wearing the right dress code> only to see if this was enforced. Obviously it wasnt. So where do we go from here?????

Muzz in a thong, Now that would attract a sponsor.
Mezz by any chance???? at the moment I have secured a Muzz Under wear, just need a cue sponsor now.....

Ive been told that Im a bit of a predator.... But Im a big fan of up the "Duff"erin..

sorry N.Z. not the world
Tiger Woods wears shorts? What sport you been watching?
I am referring to his caddie Richo.

Your argument cannot simply be that if we dress like lawyers we get on telly ?

T.v. gives a s*** about one thing only ***ratings*** so they can sell advertising.

The amount of people who watch golf, is exactly the same amount of people who play golf.

And guess what the dress rules are ***smart casual*** and guess what they wear shorts when it is comfortable to do so ( no person or association is either harmed nor brought into disrepute during this process ), it is their choice ( you can also be black now )

ie: things change for the better, we can learn from golf.

Whats the answer ?

Get everybody who watches T.v. to play pool. Then they will want to watch it on T.v.

O.K. that sounds hard, I agree. So let's just start with getting everybody who plays pool to play in the Tournaments, this does not seem to be happening.

( unless of course you play 2shot - where ironically everything is the same except, bingo, you guessed it - you can wear what you want, within reason - and your personal life is just that - personal)

I have heard the argument that we need to differentiate our game from the pub game ( they say that we will be frowned upon by the WPA for being unprofessional ), but unfortunately or not for Australia that is where it is played ( why pretend otherwise ? ), we don't have the luxury of pool halls everywhere ( our population does not support that capacity ), We do all start playing pool in pubs ( some of my fondest memories are from the Northpoint hotel playing against Richo and Gemma - wearing exactly what I want and being exactly who I want - it is an inherent part of my pool game, I will always be disadvantaged in conforming to something else ). So why would you create a set of circumstances that alienates me ? i'm a pool player ?

Golfers - Tennis players - surfers, bring the culture of their sport to the professional arena ( that is the interesting part ) and that is what engages an audience - mating season in Antarctica is the only time a bunch of penguins is interesting.

If we create an environment that encourages more participation in the sport, then we will be producing more high quality players to compete overseas.

The players that do get selected, by all means draw some blood, stick em in a penguin suit and chuck them on an airplane/boat/teleporter. If the WPA receive an Aussie who sits Efren down for 11 racks, they are not gonna care if he or she wore shorts in a State/National Title from some country that all the inhabitants each have a pet Kangaroo and all the women glow and men chunder. The only thing they are gonna care about is if the ratings are good, A high standard of skill is what ensures this ( nothing else ).

The goal has to be to produce the best players, and the process has to be inclusive not exclusive to achieve this in Australia.
